The 76-member South Texas Symphonic Orchestra (STXSO) has emerged as one of San Antonio's leading major orchestras. Formed in 2017, STXSO is dedicated to performing symphonic music of the highest caliber often to underserved and underrepresented audiences.
The orchestra is strongly committed to music education. Each year STXSO provides educational, symphonic concerts to thousands of students across the greater Bexar county area, and across Texas at no cost to the schools.
As with all major orchestras, each player must undergo a competitive audition for a limited number of chairs.
The orchestra welcomes members from diverse backgrounds - healthcare professionals, attorneys, retirees, music educators, students, business owners - any trained musician with a love for music and a passion to perform in an orchestra.
STXSO is a member of the League of American Orchestras and the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras.
In 2020, STXSO was designated a finalist in the American Prize Competition. STXSO has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, business owners, and members of the public.
STXSO maintains collaborations with the San Antonio Youth Ballet, the San Antonio Food Bank, and the San Antonio Battered Women & Children's Shelter. Our passion is to perform the greatest music ever written simply for the love of music.
