The 76-member South Texas Symphonic Orchestra (STXSO) has emerged as one of San Antonio's leading professional-level orchestras. Formed in 2017, STXSO is dedicated to performing symphonic music of the highest caliber.
In 2020, STXSO was designated a finalist in the American Prize Competition, community orchestra division.
The orchestra is strongly devoted to education. Each year STXSO provides educational, symphonic concerts to thousands of students across Bexar county, and across Texas with the magic of live-stream broadcasting - at no cost to the schools.
The orchestra welcomes members from diverse backgrounds - healthcare professionals, attorneys, retirees, music educators, students, business owners - any trained musician with a love for music and a passion to perform in a professional-level orchestra.
As with all professional orchestras across the United States, each player earns a chair through a competitive audition process. STXSO is a member of the League of American Orchestras and the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras.
STXSO has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, business owners, and members of the public. Our passion is to perform the greatest music ever written simply for the love of music.
